latino heritage month poster

In the months of October and November I had entered into Meijer’s Collection of Voices contest. The goal was to create some artwork for one of several categories (Women's history, Pride month, Black History, Latino Heritage, or Local Farmers) and that artwork was to be used for in upcoming store merchandising and packaging.

The idea was to create something that had the chance to be cropped in on or risk having something not fully represented as merchandising and packaging was still to be determined in the future. So I settled on making a simple poster because who doesn't love a good poster?

As an Ecuadorian myself (half at least) my cousin and I wanted to represent that in the art that I made. I wanted to show the true heroism in the produce that is picked from Ecuador while shining a light on their efforts in providing all of the fruits we take for granted in our grocery stores! Seemed like a promising premise for an art project!

Winner got $5,000 and bragging rights. Cool, right?

The contest was on a voting basis at first and then judges selected from the highest voted. I received 63 votes and got myself to second place overall and second within the Latino Heritage category specifically. However the corporate powers at be who were in charge of selecting the winners did not choose my piece for consideration. Damn....

So now what? Well, I decided I'm going to share my art with you lovely people, because at this point why not?! I hope you guys enjoy looking at this poster as much as I enjoyed making it. Cranked this out in one night and went to bed at 5:17am that night.

Thanks for reading! Til next time cool kids.
